Brian Crain - New Age Piano Collection

Posted by Aik at 12:45 AM 1 comments
It's been a long time since I last updated. I'm not adding much to my collection nowadays. Life is hectic, and time is forever not enough for me. Have I ever mentioned that I'm a slowpoke? My exam is just around the corner, but I don't feel like studying. Anyway, here's the latest personal collection of Brian Crain's music sheets contributed by Jack.

Bible Belt by Diane Birch

Posted by Aik at 4:19 AM 1 comments

Recently, I won a Bible Belt CD by singer-songwriter Diane Birch somewhere on the web. Diane's debut is simply remarkable! I like her songs and I listen to them over and over again. Among my favourites are "Valentino", "Don't Wait Up", "Rewind", "Rise Up" and "Ariel". Diane's voice sounds warm, pure and, well, classic. Her songs are soulful and jazzy. To be honest, soul and jazz aren't my favourite genres, but Diane's songs proved to be quite enjoyable. She mixes piano-playing virtuosity with easy-going soul, and she can strike an uplifting groove on even the most melancholy tune.

Though only in her mid-twenties, Birch likes to think of herself as an “old soul,” and indeed there is a startling maturity in her singing and a veteran’s self-assurance in her writing. Hook-driven songs like “Fools” and “Valentino” offer more than just instant gratification: they’re like your new best friends – you’ll want to get together with them as frequently as possible. Her work bears hints of Laura Nyro (when she was hanging out with LaBelle) and early 70’s Karen Carpenter (when she was ruling the charts), while effortlessly incorporating New Orleans second-line rhythms, gospel fervor, doo-wop harmonies, country-blues guitar and classic AM radio-style melodies.
